In This Together 2024

Call for Submissions Now Open! Deadline: April 25

Taking place on the anniversary of George Floyd’s murder, the virtual event In This Together 2024 will feature PARH USA member poets presenting works addressing the theme of systemic racism in the United States. As part of this theme, we will remember George Floyd and other victims of police brutality and explore topics such as race-based police violence, inequities in the U.S. criminal justice system, systemic racism in other U.S. institutions, progress made and lack of progress made since George Floyd’s death, allyship and solidarity, and actions that can lead to change.

Poets Against Racism & Hate USA member poets* are invited to submit work for consideration for this event. Please follow these submission guidelines:

  • Ensure that you will be available to participate in a virtual rehearsal of the event at 12 PM Saturday, May 18, 2024.
  • Ensure that you will be available to participate in the virtual event on May 25, 2024, arriving in the virtual studio at 6:30 PM ET and staying through the close of the event at 8:30 PM ET. (You will need a stable internet connection to participate in the event.)
  • Understand that PARH USA does not tolerate any kind of discrimination, hate speech, or endorsement of violence. Ensure that any poetry you submit is respectful and considerate of the diverse groups that make up the PARH USA community, our audiences, and our larger world.
  • Send as an attachment three to five poems and a biographical statement of not more than 100 words written in third person to poetsagainstracism.usa@gmail.com. Preferred file types are .doc and docx. Submitting up to five poems, even if the reading of those poems would exceed the allotted reading time, will provide our reviewers more options to consider. The works you submit should align with the theme of the event as stated above. You may submit relevant poems that have been accepted for publication elsewhere or previously published on PARH USA’s Featured Poem page. (Poems not chosen for inclusion in the event may be selected for potential future publication on the Poets Against Racism & Hate USA website.)

Deadline for submission is April 25, 2024.

*Not a PARH USA member? Please consider joining! There are no fees or obligations. Our goals are simply to help social justice poets find outlets for their work and to get social justice poetry in front of as many audiences as possible. To find more information and complete the membership form, see our Membership page.
